Program Standards

CITO works with partners in education and industry to develop programs and standards for each of the 33 assigned trades. Through the program development process, CITO ensures that the products produced reflect the realities and needs of the construction industry not only in BC, but also across the country.

When a trade is reviewed, a trade committee is organized to oversee the work that is to be done. Trade committees are made up of contractors who are actively involved in the trade and who hire and train apprentices as well as a current instructor. Where possible, CITO will include contractors from various regions of the province and will strive to have equal representation from the unionized and open shop sectors. The committee identifies Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) who work with CITO staff to develop and/or update the various documents that are required as part of the review process.
